People who choose to have face and neck lifts do so because they do not like the effects of the aging process.
Who is it for?
A gradual loss of youthful appearance or physical attractiveness is a matter of a deep emotional concern not only for aesthetic and psychological reasons, but in some instances, for economic considerations as well.
There is no specific time for a face/neck lift. One philosophy is to perform the operation during the early stages of the aging process when the skin is starting to loosen and relax. Facelifts performed at this stage may have to be repeated over a period of time depending upon the aging process. This theory applies to those who want to stay looking young as their number of birthdays increase. A second theory is to wait until the aging process has advanced further - to when a person is in their 50’s, 60’s, or older.
Standard Facelift:
Description
This operation is designed to remove loose hanging skin and tighten the deep muscles of the neck. This procedure helps correct the sagging skin near the jawline and removes the excess folds of skin beneath the chin. It also elevates the musculature of the neck to a higher position.
The amount of improvement following a facelift depends on how advanced the aging process is at the time. Generally speaking, the duration of improvement varies from 4 to 8 years, but also varies from patient to patient, depending on genetic make-up and general health.
The face and neck are considered an aesthetic unit which undergoes changes relating abnormal fatty deposits and changing of skin tone: The “fat neck” problem is due to fatty accumulation under the chin and jowls, while the severe hanging skin of the neck, or “turkey neck” is caused by extensive weight loss or heredity. A receding chin is often associated with poor neck/chin line where the neck almost comes to the edge of the chin. These individuals benefit from a chin implant, along with a facelift.
Dr. Ftaiha has pioneered the technique of the liposuction-assisted facelift, which has been a major break-through in the field of cosmetic surgery. Prior to initiating the procedure through multiple small incisions, fat is suctioned from the entire neck, jowl, and face areas. By doing this, the time of the operation is decreased almost in half and requires less time under anesthesia and can be performed under local anesthesia. It has been shown that liposuction removal of fat is much safer than dissection of fat, since there is no chance of any damage to important structures of the face and neck. Jowl fat is now removed through a procedure designed by the authors called “Jowl Extraction”. Two small incisions are made in the gum line and the fat is extracted to give a finer appearance of the chin line.
Cosmetic upper and lower eyelid surgery can be performed in conjunction with the facelift. At times, cheek or chin implants are necessary to help give either a better neck/chin projection or fullness to the cheeks. A simultaneous chemical peel can improve fine wrinkles and grooves around the mouth.

The incisions, which are placed in the hairline and around the ears, are made in the most hidden way. The sagging muscles are then tightened to give durable results. The skin incisions are closed cosmetically with invisible sutures.
